APS 38.10 – Payment of Moving Expenses Incurred by New or Transferred Employees

Purpose

The University is permitted by the state of Washington to pay moving expenses for eligible new or transferring employees. These policies and procedures are detailed in the state Office of Financial Management’s State Administrative and Accounting Manual (SAAM), Chapter 60, “Moving Expenses,” and comply with state laws, RCW 43.03.060 and 43.03.110 through 43.03.210.

Scope

This policy applies to eligible new or transferring employees.

1.  Procedures Regarding Moving Expenses

There are two options available for paying costs associated with moves:

  • Departments may authorize a Lump Sum Payment; or
  • Departments may authorize a state-contracted move.
